Emma Clark
Through her illustrated monograph, ‘Underneath Which Rivers Flow—The Symbolism of the Islamic Garden’, and her illustrated book, ‘The Art of the Islamic Garden’, Emma has integrated the two areas that are the focus of research and teaching at The Prince’s School; the profound meaning of the traditional arts together with their practice. The monograph explores the sacred symbolism of the traditional Islamic garden, aiming to demonstrate that all such gardens created on earth are based upon their heavenly archetype as portrayed in the Qur’an.
‘The Art of the Islamic Garden’ is an introduction to the design, symbolism and making of an Islamic garden. It examines this garden as a traditional art as well as providing a practical guide to creating one in a northern European climate. Emma now extends her research work into the practical sphere, specialising in designing Islamic gardens in the United Kingdom and abroad.
