Degree Show 2024: Meet the Graduates - Anastasiya Levashova
INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND YOUR WORK. WHAT IDEAS AND THEMES ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU?
I was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and have been painting ever since I could hold a brush. My artistic journey led me to London, where I continued to develop my craft. My artwork is inspired by Ukrainian traditions, childhood memories, and moments of déjà vu. Through my art, I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia, wonder, and introspection. I want viewers to reflect on their own experiences and find beauty in the unity of light and darkness, mirroring the complexity of the human spirit and the eternal spark of divinity within us all. I hope those viewing my work will be drawn into the dance of light and shadow, discovering within it a reflection of their own narrative.
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE? WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO WORK WITH THESE MATERIALS?
The joy of creation and the magic of making my own materials drive my passion for being an artist. There is something therapeutic and extremely rewarding in preparing your own materials. I love working with natural pigments, oil, egg tempera, and clay. Ceramics is a new adventure for me, but ever since I first touched clay a couple of years ago, I haven't been able to stop.
WHAT DREW YOU TO THE SCHOOL, AND WHAT DO YOU WANT TO REMEMBER ABOUT THESE LAST TWO YEARS?
The school's ethos and values resonated with me deeply. It has been the perfect place for my artistic and personal growth over the past two years. I am grateful to the tutors I've met at the school, who generously shared their wisdom, techniques, and a lifetime of research with us. Studying alongside such a dynamic group of fellow students was a wonderful experience – together, we not only inspired one another but also enjoyed many memorable moments, including our shared love for homemade cakes.
DESCRIBE YOUR STUDIO TO US. WHAT WOULD WE FIND?
Step into my studio, and you’ll meet my trusty assistant—a beautiful Border Collie named Hera. She ensures I am always smiling, taking regular breaks, and enjoying walks in the woods.
PROFESSIONALLY, WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES AND GOALS?
I want to continue creating with passion, remain endlessly curious, stay inspired, and, most importantly, inspire others along the way.
