Exhibition of works by Certificate of Icon Painting programme gradutes

The works in this exhibition were created by students of The Prince's Foundation School of Traditional Arts during their three-year part-time Certificate in Icon Painting programme. In the context of the theology of the icon the students studied the techniques of egg tempera panel painting.

The programme, founded in 2009, runs for three years and consists of seven sessions a year, each of three days. Up to five hours a week home study is also expected.

The course is taught primarily by Aidan Hart, in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

The skills and subjects taught include: pigment and panel preparation; gilding; techniques of egg tempera icon painting; theology of the icon; the relationship between iconography, church architecture and worship.

Twelve new students have been selected for the next programme, beginning in October this year. If you are interested in applying for the next entries in 2021, please register your interest by contacting Rasha Al Sarraj.
