Exhibition: 'The Bridge' by Adrian Iurco

From Monday 22nd to Saturday 27th September, master Byzantine fresco painter Adrian Iurco will be exhibiting his work at the School's gallery in Shoreditch.

Adrian works within the tradition of Christian Orthodox icons and produces monumental frescos of immense beauty. The Bridge is a personal exhibition that brings together Adrian's experience in Byzantine and secular art. It is an association of different artistic languages experienced as an icon, portrait or landscape; bringing together the past and the present, making a bridge through time.Portrait is the main theme of this show, approached from an observational and a spiritual perspective, as well as through association with natural elements represented by clouds. The artist's intention is to create a common territory, where traditional art can meet the contemporary art. This is to show that Icons in the Byzantine style are not just of the past; they are a timeless, transcendental and living art.

For the past four years, Adrian Iurco has been a doctoral student at the School with a dissertation topic of The fresco technique in contemporary Byzantine painting. Much of his practice-based research and fresco work has taken place in Churches in Romania; this exhibition presents a rare opportunity to see his work in the UK.

The School's gallery is at 19-22 Charlotte Road, London EC2A 3SG. Opening hours are 9:00 - 20:00, Monday -Friday and 10:00 - 16:00 on Saturday. The exhibition is closed on Sunday 21st and on Friday 26th

During the time of the exhibition Adrian will also be teaching a course on Byzantine Monumental Drawing & Fresco Techniques
