Geometry Exhibition and Workshop in Somerset from 8th May to 1st July

Geometry and parquetry tutor Tom Bree has organised a new exhibition and practical geometry course in the beautiful medieval city of Wells in Somerset. Both will take place at the Wells Museum which is directly next door to the cathedral. The exhibition is called "Eternal Forms in the Mind of God - Geometry in Christian and Islamic Art" and will run from the 8th of May to the 5th of June, 11am to 5pm daily (4pm on Sundays). Admission is free. In the geometry course, participants will construct Christian and Islamic patterns using a pair of compasses and a ruler, and then apply colour to them. There will also be slide show lectures in which other aspects of geometry will be looked at, such as its symbolism and philosophical meaning, the history of its use and its existence as the underlying ordering principle of nature and the cosmos. The course will run from Monday 27th June to Friday 1st July.No previous experience required.
