Postgraduate Students return from field trip to Granada

Our MA students and exchange students from Brunei returned from their annual field trip at the end of April.

This year, the students travelled to Andalucía in Southern Spain to visit The Alhambra in Granada, The Great Mosque of Córdoba and the Medina al-Zahra just outside Córdoba.

The central theme of this year's study visit was the symbolism of the tree in Islamic art and architecture. Drawing and sketching, especially of Islimi motifs, began at the Medina al-Zahra and carried on with talks and geometry sessions in Córdoba and Granada.

The students were particularly inspired by their visit to a new exhibition at Puerta Mimbras at The Alhambra, where they were warmly welcomed by the curator Ramon Rubio.

The students were accompanied by our Director of Education Paul Marchant, Senior Tutors Emma Clark and Jonathan Horning, Registrar Ririko Suzuki, Outreach Manager Lisa DeLong and Librarian Carla Marchesan.

We would like to express our gratitude for their help over the years to María del Mar Villafranca Jiménez, the Director of the Patronato; Purificación Marinetto Sanchez, the Director of the museum; and Lorena Fernandez, PA to the Director, for the free use of a classroom.
