Scholarship Announced for Malaysian Student

The British Malaysian Society (BMS) and The Prince's School of Traditional Arts (PSTA) have jointly established an academic scholarship for a two year MA programme in London for a qualifying Malaysian student. The scholarship is being given in memory of the late Tengku Ismail bin Tengku Su, whose collection of traditional and contemporarysongket from Terengganu was a major feature of the exhibition, "Royal Weaves: Traditional Textile Arts of Malaysia". Tengku Ismail passed away in London on 13 August 2011 two months after the exhibition. The scholarship fund was raised from the proceeds of the Gala Dinner which was held in conjunction with the exhibition. It is hoped that the scholarship will benefit a Malaysian student who, after the two year course in the Visual Islamic and Traditional Arts at the PSTA, will return to share the knowledge and principles of traditional arts to aspiring artisans, craftsmen and designers in Malaysia. The applicant must be a Malaysian national - and resident of Malaysia - proficient in the English language and with a first degree to qualify for this academic scholarship. The scholar will make an annual presentation to the BMS.Interested parties and applicants should contact the Registrar of The Prince's School of Traditional Arts, Ms. Ririko Suzuki, for a list of requirements and the application forms at Ririko.Suzuki@psta.org.uk
